With temperatures rising, swimming pool owners will have the covers off and crystal clear water to take a dip over the summer months. For those homeowners who have inherited an old pool or are building a new one, there are quite a few decisions the servicing or installation company will have to discuss with the client. One of these is the type of the paving stones which surround the edge of the swimming pool. The copings supplied by London Stone are made from a variety of stones from around the world – Yorkstone, limestone, sandstone and travertine. The selected stone will usually match that of the poolside paved area.
The coping stones are cut to size and shaped at our Bespoke Stone Centre and the edges and surfaces are finished to the client’s, architect’s or installer’s specifications. With a tight tolerance of just +/- 2mm, these copings should be laid with a pointing gap of not less than 5mm and should never be butt jointed. For an organic shaped pool, such as a kidney shape, each coping stone may be a different shape and our state of the art machinery is able to translate these shapes onto the stone’s surface, optimising the layout and minimising the waste. We are also able to cut tight curves which are used on the corners of the swimming pool’s edge.
Traditionally a swimming pool coping stones will have a full bullnose edge and a sloping profile to allow the water to drain away, but we are able to fabricate any specified shape. Consideration should be given to a safe finished surface of the coping stones.
One of the unique products we have developed is a bespoke stone grill, which is cut using our CNC machine using the latest cutting technology. These grills can be made from any of the stones used for swimming pool copings.
