Brown Composite Decking: A Versatile, Durable, Enduring Outdoor Material
Brown composite decking’s earthy tones make it a match for outdoor living spaces. Perfect for blending seamlessly into natural environments or contrasting with sleek architectural designs, brown decking offers a versatile, warm aesthetic, along with all the composite materials’ modern advantages.
Key Features of Brown Composite Decking
Naturally Warm and Versatile: Brown decking mimics the natural beauty of wood, providing an earthy warmth with rich tones like chestnut, oak and mocha. This variety of shades means there’s an option to suit any style, whether you're aiming for a rustic feel or a polished, contemporary space.
Low-Maintenance: Unlike traditional wooden decks, which require regular staining and sealing, brown composite decking is virtually maintenance-free. A simple clean with water and a mild detergent is all that's needed to keep it looking its best.
Weather-Resistant: Engineered to handle everything the UK climate can throw at it, brown composite decking resists warping and won't fade, crack, rot or splinter. Whether facing intense sunlight, heavy rain or fluctuating temperatures, your deck remains beautiful, functional and structurally sound for many years in all seasons.
Eco-Friendly Material: Across our ranges of composite decking, all boards are manufactured with sustainability in mind. Brushed and Grooved decking is produced in part with natural bamboo fibres, while DesignBoard Decking is part-made with rice husks, which are a natural waste product of rice-milling. Check out Millboard Composite Decking’s sustainable practises.
Cost-Effective: While initial costs may be higher than traditional wood, brown composite decking requires less maintenance over time, making it a more cost-effective solution. Across its lifespan, the lack of need for staining, sanding or sealing saves both time and money.
Long-Lasting: By choosing brown composite decking from London Stone, you're making a long-lasting investment in your home’s outdoor living areas. Composite decking is designed to last for decades, so you’ll enjoy your outdoor space for years without worrying about costly repairs or frequent replacements.
Designing with Brown Composite Decking
When selecting brown composite decking, consider how it will complement other elements of your garden or patio. Pairing brown decking with porcelain paving, lush green landscaping or contemporary garden furniture can create an inviting, harmonious outdoor space. For more modern designs, choose a darker brown like Mocha DesignBoard to contrast with pale-coloured walls or sleek glass balustrades.
For a more traditional setting, opt for Vintage or Chestnut Brushed decking, which brings warmth and texture to the space, complementing wooden garden furniture, classic garden accessories, or natural stone or brick paving.

Gardens of The Future used Vintage Millboard decking in a modern garden project in the leafy suburb of Loughton. When bathed in sunlight, the copper-brown tones of the rustic-look decking contrast with the ashen grey of our Black Granite Plank Paving, to give a beautiful finish that blends perfectly with the surrounding soft landscaping.

A classic choice for any outdoor space, Traditional DesignBoard features a mid-brown shade that provides a timeless aesthetic. Its consistent, smooth finish is ideal for modern and traditional garden designs alike, offering a clean, simple foundation for a variety of décors. Installing composite decking can be a DIY project, but it’s essential to follow proper guidelines to avoid problems in the future. Installation Hints and Tips:
- Prepare the Ground: Clear the area and ensure the ground is level. For elevated decks, a subframe of treated timber or composite joists is necessary to support the decking.
- Install Joists: Joists should be spaced evenly, usually 300mm apart. This framework provides the support for your decking boards.
- Fix the Boards: Use the recommended fixing clips and screws, such as the DesignBoard Clip System, which ensures a seamless and secure fit. View deck building essentials.
- Cutting the Boards: Composite boards can be cut using standard woodworking tools, such as a bench-mounted drop saw with a carbon-tipped blade. Read more on cutting composite decking.
- Edging: For a polished finish, use matching fascia boards or bullnose boards for exposed edges or steps.
- Maintenance: One of the main benefits of composite decking is its low-maintenance nature. Simply sweep away debris and wash with water and mild soap if necessary.

Brown Composite Decking FAQs
How long does composite decking last?
Composite decking has a predicted lifespan of over 25 years. All our composite decking comes with a product warranty, making it an excellent long-term investment:
- Brushed & Grooved Product Warranty – 3 years
- DesignBoard Classic – 10 years
- Millboard Composite Decking – 25 years (residential usage, if registered within 90 days of purchase)
Is composite decking slippery?
Composite decking is designed with slip-resistance in mind. Ranges like Millboard and DesignBoard Grooved offer textured surfaces for enhanced grip, making them safe for use around pools or in wet conditions.
Can composite decking fade in sunlight?
UV-resistant properties in both Millboard and DesignBoard prevent significant fading, ensuring that your decking remains vibrant for years.
Can I put a fire pit or fire bowl onto my composite decking?
This depends upon the heat exposure and type of firepit that you are intending on installing. We would always recommend there is a gap to the underside allowing for a good airflow to prevent a build-up of heat under any type of burner. Refer to our DesignBoard Product Guide for more information.
How do I clean composite decking?
Like any outdoor material, composite decking does require maintaining, to keep it looking its best and to ensure it lasts. Cleaning is a straightforward process. Depending on how clean you wish to keep your deck, it usually takes place seasonally. Sweep regularly and hose down with water. For stubborn dirt, use a mild detergent and a soft brush. To remove stains, specialist cleaning products can be used, but check with the manufacturer’s guidelines before applying any chemicals to your decking, and always test cleaning products in a small, inconspicuous section, before applying to the whole decked area.
