Corten steel is a “weathering” steel, which means that it takes on a rusted appearance but maintains its strength and integrity, unlike rusting metal. The rust forms on the surface over several months (our Corten planters arrived part weathered and will continue to develop their distinctive tawny patina in situ) and creates a layer that protects the metal beneath from deep rusting.
