Why Choose Grey Stone Paving?
Here are some reasons to consider grey stone paving:
Versatility: Grey acts as a foil to other colours. It’s great for complementing lush green lawns, as you can see in these garden images on our Facebook page, for example, or providing a neutral backdrop to vibrant flower beds, as does Kandla Grey in this charming garden design. Grey paving stones will enhance other elements in your garden.
Colour range: Grey paving is available in a range of tones, from the light-enhancing Dove Grey to the dramatic Brazilian Grey. For even more options, look at our porcelain paving and black stone paving. Wondering if a dark colour is right for you? Discover the pros and cons of dark-coloured paving.
Match for complementary materials: Composite decking, clay pavers, porcelain paving—even furniture—all come in a range of grey tones. Choosing this colour extends your options to mix and match materials and textures while maintaining one overall colour. Wall cladding is also available in grey, as you can see in this design with Jura Grey paving and Black Slate cladding.
Durability: London Stone’s grey paving is not just aesthetically pleasing. We only supply durable, high-quality natural stone, capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions and heavy foot-traffic.
Low maintenance: Grey paving slabs, especially in darker shades, are relatively low maintenance, as they do not show dirt and stains as prominently as lighter colours like beige and cream.

Garden pathways: Use grey paving to create an inviting pathway that guides visitors through your garden, adding structure and charm.
Front gardens and driveways: Grey paving is an ideal choice for front gardens or driveways. For example, a house frontage with Kandla Grey limestone is particularly appealing with older architecture. Not to mention that Grey is a forgiving colour where stains and marks will not easily show up. With its timeless versatility and durability, and huge number of shades available, grey can complement various architectural styles.
New-build properties: Grey paving suits the modernity of new-build houses, as in this striking modern garden, allowing you to put your personal stamp on your new home.
Entrances and front gardens: Use grey paving slabs to create a stunning, welcoming entrance to your home, that will also add kerb appeal to your property.
Pair with red bricks: The contrasting colours of a red-bricked property and grey paving works particularly well, leading to a timeless, cohesive finish.
Plank paving: A garden with standard grey paving cut into linear planks creates stylish laying patterns, and to create a larger sense of space in smaller gardens.
City gardens: Cities may be renowned for being grey, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t create your own city garden oasis using grey paving slabs, by introducing planting to create a sense of calm.
Grey Paving Slabs at the World’s Most Prestigious Shows
Grey stone paving supplied by London Stone has played a key role in the success of several prominent RHS show gardens. Working closely with leading garden designers and landscapers, London Stone has supplied high-quality materials that enhanced the overall aesthetic and durability of these show gardens.
Highlights include Hay-Joung Hwang’s award-winning garden at RHS Chelsea 2018. It showcased the elegance of large Jura Grey Limestone paving slabs, which provided a sophisticated backdrop that highlighted the garden's intricate, innovative details.
The 2022 Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival gave us an opportunity to showcase Dark Grey Granite, in Charlie Bloom's ‘Sunburst’ garden. The dark grey granite helped to create a sleek, modern look that harmonised beautifully with the garden's vibrant natural elements.
RHS Malvern Spring is the traditional ‘show season opener’, and the 2019 show saw Bristol-based Jessica Makins utilising the natural, muted grey tones of our Heath Sandstone, that perfectly complemented the surrounding flora. Crafting a serene, naturalistic space, ‘An Artist's Studio at Home’ was influenced by American modernist artist, Georgia O’Keefe.
Decorated garden designer Will Williams, combined the subtle contrasts in Jura Grey Limestone and Heath Sandstone in his 2019 Hampton Court garden for Viking Cruises. Using two different grey stones added depth and character to the design.
Each of these show gardens exemplifies how London Stone's materials contribute to creating breathtaking outdoor spaces.

Grey Stone Pavers FAQs
Why is there such a price difference within your range of grey stone paving?
There are a number of factors that contribute to explaining the cost of natural stone. Ease of quarrying, transportation costs, demand—and also, the more processed a material, the higher the cost. Jura Grey limestone, for example, sourced from Germany, with a sawn, sandblasted and brushed surface, costs significantly more than Kandla Grey sandstone, sourced from India, and hand-cut (less processed).
London Stone keep our selling prices as low as possible for our customers. At times, we do have to raise our prices, due to factors such as increased shipping costs, but we always reduce prices when we can.
How do I maintain grey stone paving, and does it need sealing?
Maintaining grey stone paving is relatively simple. Regular sweeping and occasional washing with mild soapy water or a household detergent will keep the stones looking their best. The regularity of maintaining your paving is dependent on factors such as whether your garden is shady and damp, has overhanging vegetation such as trees that could drop fruit, and whether you have pets or children using the paving.
We recommend pre-sealing sawn (smooth) natural stone prior to installation. We explain more in our extensive guide to sealing, but essentially this process helps to protect the paving from stains and weathering, and will assist you with ongoing maintenance.
London Stone offer a pre-sealing service, which enables you to lay the material as soon as it arrives on site, reducing potential delays, and giving you peace of mind that your paving slabs have been sealed under controlled conditions.
Can I use grey stone paving for my driveway?
Yes, our grey stone paving is an excellent choice for driveways, with the strength and durability to handle the weight of vehicles while providing a stylish entrance to your home. You might like to avoid lighter colours, as driveways receive a lot of traffic and light colours will show marks more easily. From ultra-modern sawn (smooth) paving slabs, to more rustic stone setts and cobbles, you’re sure to find materials to suit your style and budget within our grey driveway paving range.
Are grey stones suitable for pool surrounds?
Absolutely. Grey stones are ideal for pool surrounds as they offer a slip-resistant surface and can withstand exposure to water and chemicals. Their neutral tones also help create a luxurious poolside with a calming ambiance. Many customers choose to use products from our stylish off-the-shelf steps collection to create sleek bullnosed pool copings.
