Outdoor decking has so more much to offer today than in the past. While timber boards are still an option, the huge range of colours and textures available in composite materials allow much more scope for deck ideas. And the low-maintenance, slip-resistant properties of composite decking mean it doesn’t need to be stained and treated, unlike wood. This makes it, not only an attractive choice, but also a practical one that can be used where you might think twice about timber: for example, around swimming pools.
How is Composite Decking Made?
Outdoor decking is made of a variety of materials and there are lots of choices on the market. Boards may contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that are combined with wood fibres. Including organic materials often gives boards a more natural appearance and flax, hemp, bamboo or rice husks may be chosen, instead of wood. Some are completely wood-free, manufactured with resins and polymers. At the cheaper end of the market, boards are likely to be made completely of plastic.
Quality is important. Plastic decking can warp, fade and crack. Our composite decking, made of robust, fade-proof materials, is selected for its high-quality finish and longevity. Whether you choose clean, modern lines and pastel colours of DesignBoard contemporary outdoor decking or the traditional timber appearance of Millboard, you can be confident the boards will maintain their good looks for years into the future.
